Your Guide to the New Subaru Forester 2016
If you are considering a Subaru Forester for sale, you may have wondered what changes have been made to the 2016 new Subaru Forester. While the Forester has remained a popular choice, Subaru has made the decision to refresh the model with a mid cycle revamp. This upgrade has provided a tougher aesthetic with a quieter cabin featuring additional gadgets and upgraded instruments.
While the aesthetic changes may be the most obvious, there are some significant engineering changes on the new Subaru Forester that make it even more attractive. The suspension has been modified to improve stability, and the Japanese auto manufacturer has also made some significant modifications to the Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) factor. There have been some serious tweaks and refinements which are likely to encourage buyers sitting on the fence to jump towards the Forester.
The model is offered with a 2.0 XT and XT Premium variant, which has benefitted from the SI-Drive mode being reprogrammed. This has created a sportier and more responsive performance from the automatic Continuously Variable Transmission. The new system allows speed to be continuously variable even in the low throttle range when you are driving in the D range. However, if you put your foot down, the system transforms to step control, which makes the most of the benefits of a CVT. This change prevents the engine speed from reaching a peak during vigorous acceleration, for example, when you are merging into highway lanes. The speed control increases the integration between the engine operating sound and increased vehicle speed to create a more pleasant feeling when accelerating. The 2.0 XT Premium has also picked up Active Torque Vectoring, which further sharpens turning performance.
However, there are no changes to the actual engines and transmissions. The double overhead cam, horizontally opposed engine is still available as a 2.0 litre, 2.5 litre, 2.0 litre turbo petrol or a 2.0 litre turbo diesel. The entry level and diesel models are still available with a manual transmission, but with small sales figures, it is anticipated that these options may be withdrawn at some stage in the future.
Despite the Subaru Forester price remaining unchanged, there are some new features that could be of interest to potential buyers. The model has a new front bumper, altered headlights and grille and new LED combo tail lights. The 2.0 XT and 2.5i-S now feature LED headlights which are steering responsive. These are designed to illuminate the vehicle path in corners, improving night visibility significantly. The range also features new 17 or 18 inch alloys, revised seat fabric and new LCD multi function display.
