2017 Subaru Impreza Makes a New York Debut
While buyers are still flocking to the current Subaru Impreza for sale, Subaru enthusiasts should be very pleased that the 2017 Impreza has made its debut at the New York Auto Show. This new look model was built from the Subaru Global Platform, a brand new architecture, which is setting the design tone for the forthcoming Subaru range. This new structure means that the new hatchback and sedan models are going to be larger than the outgoing variants.
From its debut, it is fairly obvious that the new 2017 model is larger than the current Subaru Impreza for sale. It measures 4.63 metres in length while it is 1.45 metres tall and 1.78 metres wide. It rides on a 2.7 metre wheelbase, which is larger than the previous 2.64 metre wheelbase. Subaru has stated that both the hatch and sedan will ride a centimetre lower to boost aerodynamics while the models are 4 centimetres wider. Thanks to a new Sport body kit, the new Impreza looks even lower. The Japanese manufacturer claims that the new architecture has been “designed to deliver” heightened levels of “driving pleasure, crash protection, ride comfort and agility” and is set to “underpin” the variety of upcoming vehicles in the Subaru range, including hybrids.
As you would expect from a Subaru vehicle, the new Impreza variants are all wheel drive. However, they now feature a revised four cylinder 2.0 litre Boxer engine, which is horizontally opposed and produces 114 kW of power. This is an increase compared to the old model and the torque is also expected to be boosted from the 196 Nm on the current model to approximately 200 Nm. According to preliminary details, Subaru will not be offering a manual transmission variant. Instead, the standard option will be a Lineartronic CVT transmission. As yet fuel option details have not been confirmed. As a way to bridge the gap between the current Subaru WRX for sale and the new generation Impreza, Subaru will be adding a Sport variant to the range. This will feature sports suspension, 18-inch wheels and a new torque-vectoring system to assist in keen cornering. The revised suspension and lower centre of gravity, combined with a mounted rear stabiliser are expected to reduce body roll by as much as 50 percent.
Inside the Cabin:
The interior aesthetics are not too dissimilar to the current Subaru Impreza for sale. There is a new 8.0-inch media unit, featuring Android Auto tech and Apple CarPlay, which looks more integrated into the cabin. In the US version, the Sport model features leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminium pedals and Kardon/Harman stereo, which may appear in the local variant. The model is also equipped with the EyeSight system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and lane departure warning among other safety systems.
The new generation model is set to arrive here at the end of 2016, but if you would like further details about the current Subaru Impreza for sale, speak to us.
