The 2017 Subaru Levorg Receives the Coveted 5 Star ANCAP Rating
The new Subaru Levorg is finally here, and it is already following the example set by the 2016 Subaru Levorg. News has recently been released that the new 2017 Levorg will also have a 5 star ANCAP safety rating that is such an important barometer for safety conscious drivers. Safety has always been an obsession for Subaru engineers and their efforts pay off when the testing commences. Here are a few interesting things to note about the safety testing process and its implications.
What is the ANCAP Safety Rating?
The Australasian New Car Assessment or ANCAP as it is known is an independent crash testing organisation. The test all new cars that reach the Australian market and rate them for their safety. The highest score that can be achieved is a 5 star safety rating and many safety conscious drivers will only buy a car with this top score.
How Did the Levorg Perform in the Occupant Safety Test?
Much like the 2016 Subaru Levorg, the new 2017 model did very well in the ANCAP testing procedure. The Levorg performed particularly well in the side impact tests scoring full marks. The pole test resulted in a score of 35.85 out of the maximum 37 points possible. The ANCAP testers were impressed with safety features, such as dual front and side curtains, dual front and side airbags, a driver knee airbag, the EyeSight safety suite and other structural safety assist technologies. Together all these features and results landed the new Levorg a 5 star safety rating.
Some High Praise from Safety Experts:
It is also interesting to note that ANCAP had a great deal of praise for the Levorg as it is one of the few wagons that offers autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a lane support system. In fact, the chief executive office of ANCAP James Goodwin said of the Levorg “it is an impressive package regarding safety,” he added “it offers all three grades of AEB as standard” and he finished by saying “owners will benefit from emergency braking intervention to avoid a crash.” Avoiding a crash is always preferable, and we have come a long way since the Subaru Levorg concept days. The new Levorg can even detect pedestrians at low speeds when tested the Levorg scored a 28.31 out of a possible score of 36 for pedestrian protection.
