If you are a keen collector of Subaru merchandise, you have likely been keen to hear news about the forthcoming facelift of the BRZ. The range of Subaru merchandise, Australia-based dealerships can offer tends to be based on the core models for the brand. However, since its release back in 2013, the Subaru BRZ has prove a great hit with enthusiasts and collectors.
The New Facelift:
The facelift of the Subaru BRZ and its twin the Toyota 86 has been highly anticipated. Subaru have kept the details of the upgrade under wraps. However, recent spy photographers have managed to snap a few shots of the new model while it was being tested in Europe. The photographs captured the model with only its front and rear bumpers disguised. It is, therefore, safe to assume that the update is not set to make any drastic changes to the design of this iconic coupe.
It is unclear if the photographs are of the Subaru or Toyota, but the models are very similar in appearance. However, the model photographed does feature a single bar side vent design that has only been used on the Subaru to date. At the front of the vehicle, the model has a redesigned auxiliary light stack, broader air intake and what is assumed to be new headlight internals. At the back, the rear bumper has been tweaked but the biggest aesthetic change is the LED lights, which now have horizontal lines that are moulded into the surface of the cover. It is assumed that the interior will also have had similar aesthetic tweaks, and the engineers may even have tried to retune the drivetrain to deliver a little extra performance.
The Impact on Subaru Merchandise:
The Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 have both enjoyed critical acclaim since their launch. While global sales haven’t set the charts on fire, the model has developed a loyal enthusiast following. For this reason, it is assumed that Subaru will offer new Subaru merchandise to reflect the new model changes. In 2014, Subaru shifted 7504 BRZ models on the United States market. However, here this boxer engine based coupe has achieved far greater popularity. As of May 2014, Australia was responsible for 10 percent of global 86 sales. During 2014, Subaru sold 1,112 BRZ models, while Toyota shifted 4,257 86 units.
However, although Subaru are anticipating that sales of the BRZ will equal last year’s sales in the United States, in our domestic market, the model is almost 34 percent down on estimates. Fortunately, the facelift to this fantastic coupe is likely to give the model a boost in sales. Depending on how quickly Subaru can bring it to market, it could provide a strong start to 2016.
