Subaru has unveiled their new WRX STI S207 limited edition at the recent Tokyo Motor Show. The S207 will go on sale in Japan only from early March of next year. Although it is a shame that the vehicle will not be available in Australia, it is still interesting to take a good look at it. This is because developments on the S207 may make their way into the Subaru WRX STI range in the future.
The S207 has been significantly tweaked to wring every last drop of performance out of the engine. The powerplant is the 2.0 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder boxer engine that Australian Subaru WRX STI owners are already familiar with. However, the Subaru boffins have managed to increase the power output from 227kW up to 241kW. The torque has also been increased from the standard 422Nm up to 431Nm. This power and torque increase has been further augmented by a revised set up for the front suspension with adjustable dampening and front-rear active torque vectoring. This ensures that the all-wheel drive system can transfer the maximum amount of power to the road.
All of the extra power requires some additional handling capabilities. For additional control, the steering setup has also been revised with a 11:1 ratio. The braking on the S207 has also received a significant upgrade provided by a Brembo braking package. This package includes drilled braking discs, six-piston callipers at the front and four piston callipers at the rear. The wheel are 19” BBS alloy wheels that are shod with 255/35 Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tyres.
Just like its parent vehicle the S207 is certainly a looker both externally and internally. Starting on the outside: red highlights have been added, there is a new mesh front grille, a large front splitter, an aggressive rear bumper and S207 badging. Inside: the seats are Recaro buckets, there are silver and red accents, the instrumentation has been revised and each model has a commemorative plaque that is numbered.
The S207 will only be available in Japan and it has been strictly limited to 500 units in total. This figure can be broken into 400 units that are available in white pearl, blue pearl or black and an additional 100 units of the NBR Challenge Pack Yellow Edition. The even more exclusive Yellow Edition adds a suede covered steering wheel, a menacing black rear spoiler, black wing mirrors, black BBS 19” alloy wheels and black sills.
